Autodesk Fabrication CADmep 2027 is a detailing and mechanical shop validation software that operates directly as a plug-in extension inside the AutoCAD framework. Geared heavily toward mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) contractors, CADmep allows detailing teams to take design-intent models from Revit or standard AutoCAD layouts and scale them up to fully coordinated, LOD 400 (Level of Detail) fabrication-ready layouts.
The 2027 release builds on modernizing drawing pipelines, improving cross-platform asset conversions, and enhancing data extraction utilities for the shop floor.
Native DWG Interoperability: Because it anchors directly into the host AutoCAD engine, detailers do not need to learn a separate standalone user interface. You utilize classic drawing tools alongside specialized custom modeling shortcuts.
Specification-Driven Modeling: Elements automatically adhere to predefined structural configurations (e.g., pressure ratings, flange shapes, material standards, and joint limitations) mapped from your central fabrication database.
Dynamic Spec Swapping: The core Design Line engine allows users to swap manufacturers, material components, or line sizes across an entire ductwork or piping run without manually deleting or rebuilding individual parts. The routing path auto-populates matching connectors and configurations interactively.
Automated Connectivity Checking: Runs physical diagnostics across active component lines, highlighting mismatched joints, disjointed fittings, or loose tolerances that would lead to failures during physical prefabrication steps.
Clash Detection Integration: Identifies spatial overlap conflicts across complex, high-density environments (like commercial boiler rooms or cleanrooms) early on, bypassing expensive physical field rework.
Modular Spool Sheets: Detailers can isolate complex, multi-component segments into distinct prefabrication spools. The software generates clear mapping identification sheets and spool drawings, structuring orderly deliveries straight to the shop or staging layout.
Comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM): Creates accurate hardware listings, linear material cut sheets, and total procurement estimates straight from the drawing canvas.
Shared Database Core: Shares its database profiles directly with Fabrication ESTmep (for pricing) and Fabrication CAMduct (for sheet-metal cutting systems), maintaining strict geometric and tooling precision down the assembly line.
Because Fabrication CADmep 2027 operates as an embedded plugin workspace, it strictly requires a local installation of AutoCAD 2027 or an AutoCAD 2027-based vertical framework (such as AutoCAD MEP or AutoCAD Architecture) running on the host workstation.
| Component | Minimum Specification | Recommended Specification |
| Operating System | 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 11 | Latest updated 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 11 |
| Host Application | AutoCAD 2027 or an AutoCAD 2027-based vertical application | Same as minimum |
| Processor (CPU) | Basic: 2.5 GHz to 2.9 GHz multi-core processor | 3.0 GHz or higher multi-core processor (Faster individual single-core clock loops accelerate dynamic spec routing swaps heavily) |
| System Memory (RAM) | 4 GB RAM minimum | 16 GB to 32 GB RAM (Though the plugin core profile is light, the host AutoCAD engine requires substantial memory when loading massive LOD 400 multi-system assemblies) |
| Graphics Hardware | 1280 x 1024 True Color display adapter powered by an OpenGL-capable graphics card | 1600 x 1050 or higher resolution powered by a dedicated CAD workstation GPU |
| Disk Space | 2 GB free space for core data storage and installation paths | 10 GB+ free space on an NVMe SSD (Enables swift caching speeds when querying extensive component databases) |
| Peripherals | Microsoft-compatible keyboard and mouse | Standard three-button mouse with central scroll wheel or spatial 3D controllers |
| Software Framework | .NET Framework Version 10 | Same as minimum |
