Autodesk PowerInspect Ultimate (often integrated into the Fusion with PowerInspect ecosphere) is a hardware-independent, 3D metrology and inspection software. It is used by manufacturing and quality control engineers to inspect complex industrial components, tools, molds, and prototypes, verifying physical parts against their native 3D CAD models.
The Ultimate edition differentiates itself by providing full automation capabilities—supporting fully programmed, unattended CNC/DCC Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and On-Machine Verification (OMV), rather than just manual or portable probing devices.
PowerInspect Ultimate serves as a single unified interface that handles quality control across the entire shop floor, linking design data directly to physical components.
CNC/DCC CMM Automation: Program and run automated, motorized Coordinate Measuring Machines.
On-Machine Verification (OMV): Inspect complex parts while they are still clamped inside the CNC machine tool breakout environment using spindle-mounted probes.
Dual-Device & Dual-Column Inspection: Drive two measurement systems simultaneously (such as pairing an articulated measuring arm with a laser tracker) or run complex synchronized dual-column CNC layout configurations.
Portable Arms & Trackers: Direct, plug-and-play driver connectivity for a massive library of hardware vendors (Faro, Hexagon/Romer, Leica, Creaform, etc.), tracking touch-trigger probes seamlessly.
Non-Contact Inspection (Laser Scanners): Capture massive point clouds over delicate or flexible surfaces using optical structured-light scanners or laser tracking attachments without physically distorting the part surface geometry.
Graphical Sequences & Embedded Strategies: Build logical measurement sequences directly in the CAD viewport by clicking the features you want to target.
Automatic Machine Collision Checking: Simulates the entire automated CMM or machine probe movement sequence offline in full 3D CAD rendering, flagging potential collisions with fixturing clamps or the part itself before running it live.
Point Cloud Feature Extraction: Automatically recognizes and fits 2D or 3D primitive geometric shapes (holes, slots, planes, spheres) from dense scanned point cloud datasets.
Best-Fit & RPS Alignments: Uses iterative point sampling algorithms to calculate complex coordinate shifts, precisely aligning highly curved, freeform parts to nominal CAD geometry shapes.
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T): Full evaluation of true spatial position, flatness, cylindricity, concentricity, and profile deviations based on industrial GD&T callout symbols.
Because PowerInspect performs real-time spatial matrix math alignments and processes dense data structures (especially point clouds from optical lasers), hardware latency can directly slow down shop floor verification tracking.
